«DORME», A La Capra Ballerina – Παράσταση κουκλοθεάτρου από την Ιταλία

 

Ένα μικρό κορίτσι πέφτει για ύπνο και ξεκινάει ένα ταξίδι ανάμεσα στα όνειρα και τους εφιάλτες της, την ομορφιά και τους φόβους της: τη μύγα με τα ψάρια με το ανθρώπινο πρόσωπο, την ανακάλυψη του εαυτού της να βγαίνει μέσα από μια ντουλάπα, ανακαλύπτοντας το φως και τις σκιές, τα χέρια της, η συνάντηση με τον θάνατο, το θάνατο της γάτας της. Το τελετουργικό θάψιμο της γάτας, η πτώση στο νερό, και τέλος η συνάντηση με τον δικό της θάνατο τη στιγμή που ξυπνάει και καταλαβαίνει ότι όλα ήταν ένα όνειρο. Τι συμβαίνει όταν ο λογικός μας εαυτός πέφτει για ύπνο; Πόσο βαθιά τα όνειρα επηρεάζουν τη ζωή μας όταν έρχεται το φως της μέρας; Πόσο συνειδητοί είμαστε σχετικά με τις νυχτερινές μας δημιουργίες; Η παράσταση είναι μια μη γραμμική ιστορία, που αποδίδεται σαν ένας οικείος αργός χορός υποστηριζόμενος από την ηλεκτρονική μουσική του Stefano Zazzera και την ειδική τεχνική μαριονέτας καρπού (wrist puppet) του Vladimir Zakharov.

Το έργο

Το όνομα του έργου είναι «DORME» που στην περίπτωσή μας σημαίνει «αυτή κοιμάται». Παρακολουθώντας τα παιδιά μου να κοιμούνται, με πρόσωπα τόσο χαλαρά και γαλήνια, αλλά ξέροντας πόσο συχνά έχουνε ανήσυχα όνειρα, αυτό με έκανε να θυμηθώ το παρελθόν όταν ήμουν κι εγώ ένα μικρό κορίτσι. Ακόμα έχω τη μνήμη αρκετών ονείρων μου και συνειδητοποιώ πόσο σημαντικά ήταν. Με γοητεύει βαθιά το γεγονός ότι ασυνείδητα σκηνοθετούμε τα όνειρά μας, σαν μια ταινία, και πώς επηρεάζουν τη λογική μας ζωή στο φως της ημέρας.
Αυτή η παράσταση θέλει να εξερευνήσει τη σχέση ανάμεσα στα όνειρα και την ιδιαίτερη κατάσταση του νου που δεν γνωρίζει αν είμαστε ξύπνιοι ή όχι.

Από την πρώτη μου επαφή με αυτή τη μορφή κούκλας, κατά τη διάρκεια της παράστασης του Vladimir Zakharov το 2005, ένιωσα βαθιά μέσα μου μια σύνδεση και την επιθυμία να μάθω να τις φτιάχνω και να τις χειρίζομαι. Όταν γίναμε φίλοι, ο Vladimir επέμενε να μου διδάξει την τεχνική κατασκευαστικά και παιχτικά. Μου πήρε τρία χρόνια και πολλή παραίνεση από μέρους του για να αποφασίσω να συμπεριλάβω την τεχνική στις παραστάσεις μου καθώς πίστευα (και ακόμα πιστεύω) ότι ανήκει σε αυτόν. Αυτές οι κούκλες, για μένα, αντικατοπτρίζουν το σημείο συνάντησης ανάμεσα στην τεχνολογία και τις παραστατικές τέχνες σε ένα μικρό βαθμό. Αυτό προφανώς συμβαίνει με τη χρήση οποιασδήποτε μαριονέτας, αλλά με αυτή τη τεχνική αισθάνομαι ότι ο δεσμός είναι ισχυρότερος. Η κούκλα καρπού έχει μια ασυνήθιστα φυσική κίνηση που σε κάνει να ξεχνάς την πολυπλοκότητα από το πλέξιμο νημάτων και σύρματος που την αποτελούν, απλά τη «φοράς» και αυτή ανταποκρίνεται. Η σφιχτή σχέση που δημιουργείται ανάμεσα στην κούκλα και το χέρι του κουκλοπαίχτη είναι μια μεγάλη πρόκληση: είναι μια επιτραπέζια μαριονέτα αλλά δεν μπορεί να πάει πιο μακριά από το χέρι σου και δεν μπορεί να μείνει μόνη της στη σκηνή καθώς θα φαίνεται παραμορφωμένη. Είναι απόλυτα εξαρτημένη από τον κουκλοπαίχτη, αν και την ίδια στιγμή, ο κουκλοπαίχτης φαίνεται απόλυτα εξαρτημένος από αυτήν. Δεν θα μπορούσα να σκεφτώ καλύτερο είδος κούκλας για αυτή την παράσταση, είναι σαν ένας δεύτερος εαυτός μου, κινούμενη μέσα στον ονειρικό κόσμο της παιδικής μου ηλικίας, συνοδευόμενη από εμένα στα όνειρα που σκηνοθετώ.

BARTOLOMEI LAURA

Laura Bartolomei, was born and raised in Rome where she attendend fine art studies, contorsionism and acrobatics. After a serious injury she was forced to find a different way to use her body, and went into dancing. The interest for dance made her travel to London and then New York where she’s got in contact with butoh, contact improvisation and creative dance. In New York she has danced with off off Broadway companies including Stephen Koplowitz, Nadine Hellstroffer, Frey Faust. While in N.Y. met Jimmy Davies, illustrator, and started a long collaboration with him, which produced not only their first puppet show, but also the travelling and living in South Korea with their growing family. Now based in Italy, she’s working on regular bases with La Capra Ballerina, which she’s a co-founder along with Jimmy Davies, and collaborating with artists in general, as well with social workers. Laura’s training in dance and visual art, makes her focus in puppetry principally on the visual and movement aspect. With La Capra Ballerina she’s been both constructing and experimenting on puppetry and producing puppets shows and stilts parades. STEFANO ZAZZERA

Recording studio owner / indipendent label MOODY MAMMOTH MUSIC composer/producer/Dj as a composer and sound designer, he has worked in both established theaters such as The Barrow Group and Lincoln Center Institute, as well as more edgy and experimental venues like Cedar Lake Dance. Stefano is known for his layered, atmospheric pieces that blend electronic music and live artists. He specializes in real time programming, calling to mind the work of Bjork and Radiohead. As a DJ/Live programmer, Stefano is versatile and his personal tastes include Electrobossa and Brazilian Beats, World, and Minimal Techno. He works regularly with video artists and enjoys spinning at multi media events. Stefano has played at venues such as Delancey, Jazz at Lincoln Center, Cedar Lake, Rebar, Alphabet Lounge, LaMama ETC. Stefano Zazzera is the lead engineer of Moody Mammoth recording studio. He has overseen recording projects
in many genres including electronica, hip-hop, world and pop. At Lincoln Center Institute, Stefano mixed and recorded live shows for many international artists. He was also engineer for dance companies like Alvin Ailey, Paul Taylor and Ping Chong. He’s gone on the road as tour engineer with Zerokilled Music’s Costanza Tour, Hector del Curto’s Eternal Tango Orchestra and Pablo Aslan’s Avantango Orchestra. A musician in his own right, Stefano has composed for film, dance and theater, most recently for the critically acclaimed Cedar Lake Dance Ensemble. Working with musicians and artists across diverse disciplines and styles deeply influences his work and recording mindset. JAMES DAVIES

Born in South Korea, was raised in the USA. In 1983 moved in New York with a scholarship to attend the School of Visual Arts where he got the Bachelor in Illustration. As freelancer illustrator he has worked for Viking’s Press, Society of Illustrators, Penthouse, Village Voice, St.Martin’s Press. While in New York he has been assistant of the artist Aaron Gluska, and vice director of the Speroni-Westwater Art Gallery in Soho. After travelling and living in South Korea with his family for few years, he has moved in Italy and started his project on research and experimenting in the field of puppetry. He has done construction for Alessandro Gigli, Salvatore Gatto, Rinoceronte Incatenato, Unicef, Philip Farah, Napoli’s Nuovo Teatro Nuovo, Mel Gibson’s “Passion”, Arena di Verona, Chuncheon Puppet Museum, local televisions. He’s co-founder of La Capra Ballerina, with which produced five puppet shows and a stilt parade, travelling in Italy and abroad, and built paper machè allegoric carts used in Carnival’s Parade. He gives workshops on wood carving, paper machè and mixed media, puppet construction and manipulation, mask making and stilts.

JULIANA NOTARI

Juliana is a brasilian marionettist and actress, studied theatre at the Instituto de Artes de la Universidad de São Paulo, Brasil. In 2004 founded the company DuoAnfibios with percussionist Augusto Moralez. The company promotes collaborations among visual artists, puppeteers and musicians. With her company she toured extensively in Central and South America, France, Spain, Italy, Swizerland, Lettony, Ctzech Republic, South Korea and Mexico. In 2008 was ia recipient of an artistic residency at the Institut International de la Marionnette in Charleville Meziere, investigating on manipulation and puppet construction for solo puppeteers. After this residency she established herself in Strasburg for 4 years. While in France she created the project “Old Boxes”, a series of 5 mini shows with theme the Old people, for one person at time. The project was done in 3 parts, the first one within the workshop given by Gavin Glover “Why use puppets?”, the second and third one in 4 months residency inside two retirement houses in France, under the direction of Laura Bartolomei. One of this mini show, “Smile in the glass” was recipient of the Award for the Best Experimentation in Puppetry from the World Festival of Puppet Art Prague 2009

LA CAPRA BALLERINA

La Capra Ballerina is founded by James Davies, korean-american illustrator and sculpturer, and Laura Bartolomei, dancer, in the 1997. Originally was born as a wood sculpture workshop where researches on traditional way of puppet-making has been carried out. La Capra Ballerina has worked to provide custom made puppets for a number of puppeteers, theatres and collectors in Italy and overseas. In 2000 the group began experimenting with their own creation for theatre. Since then they produced seven puppet shows and a stilt and puppets parade. So far we have been touring in Latino and North America, Asia and Europe, presenting our works in festival venues as well as theatres, libraries, cultural centers, schools, botanical gardens, streets. La Capra Ballerina has carried out workshop on wood carving, paper-maché, foam and latex applied to puppetry both for professional and children, as well as big construction as Carnival carts. Has organized puppet festivals and sustainable theatre festival in various villages in Alto Lazio area, inviting companies from all over the world, promoting international and intercultural meetings. Collaborates on regular bases with other puppeteers and musicians, actors, visual artists, social workers.
